Unfortunately conscious ‘festivals’ are becoming increasingly hard and unsustainable to run over these years.  Rising expenses of festival costs - literally rising to 30% or more over these 2 years, yet trying to keep ticket prices accessible (women have messaged us more than ever struggling financially and needing ‘support’ tickets this year) and more people buying last minute, due to the global climate, which means many festivals never know if they are going to break even until literally the weekend of the festival. 

In the past most festival expenses were covered by ticket sales and then everything else would be covered by alcohol sales. Obviously this is not the case with alcohol-free events. I have run this gathering for 6 years now and every year, I truly reflect ‘if I can I really do another year?’ Due to the extreme long-term stress behind the scenes. 

And I know I am not alone. Now working ‘behind the scenes’ for 6 years on so many conscious festivals, I know that everyone has struggled and even more so this year! The way we are creating them is no longer sustainable and we need to find a new way together. Because these are not just ‘festivals’…they are Templates - Templates birthing a new yet ancient way of being together… that are needed now more than ever! 

At the closing ceremony of Heart of the Rose this year I had a very clear vision to invite all female festival organisers to share on stage their own experience of the deep imbalance + insecurity of festivals, because I know very deeply we are all feeling it. Yet ironically 3 were too ‘burnt-out’ from their own festivals to come. Each of us believing so deeply in the importance of the visions we have been shown + the deep need for these conscious gatherings yet somehow still struggling to bring them through in a balanced way (and I know why many of us are now doing our gatherings ‘every-other year’ now + how some have shut down completely!) 

There are no ‘hidden costs’. Despite working crazy hours over 9 months, the team themselves are not able to pay themselves properly or for me on a personal level - at all. It’s crazy - as one team member pointed out - we are all ‘volunteers’ supporting this vision into form. Yet people may not know this and why this imbalance needs to be spoken about more widely. 

Unfortunately despite working so deeply hard this year, despite being so careful with finances on all levels, despite our network widening - we have been unable to cover costs. We still had 500 incredible women but unfortunately just under what we had before. We know this is not a reflection of the deep beauty and power of this gathering and that this has unfortunately happened with every other conscious festival this year. 

This means we now have to somehow raise £10,000+ in the next few weeks to pay towards the necessary expenses from this year (e.g. first aid, security, electricity, crew food and more) and we are reaching out to the wider community and those sisters and brothers who have hopefully received so much, so we no longer have to hold this weight alone. 

I believe these gatherings are literally global prayers for humanity, creating long-term communities + long-term visions that will literally change the fabric of the world in their area and beyond. I believe in their importance and I personally believe, and I know I am not alone, so much in Heart of the Rose, the long term vision of this festival and the importance of this rose medicine as one powerful + needed path of the heart for humanity at this time. 

I would love for this vision to keep blossoming - I know it is needed. I know how important it is. I have received such profound life-changing feedback from so many women that have come to it over these last 6 years and now from the brothers this year too! 

But my team and I need your help! 

It is vulnerable to share this and I think why most festivals don’t but we have to share, nothing has gone wrong - the system is wrong! It is no longer serving for one or few people to be holding the sole weight and responsibility on all levels for these community gatherings. And I’m grateful for this experience, as there seems a much higher reason why this has happened, as it is so important that all conscious festival organisers start to bring awareness to the instability of running these events and we start to change the narrative and truly find a new more collaborative way together. 

We cannot keep creating from the patriarchal place, which we are literally trying to dismantle.

A short-term solution but important vehicle for a wider conversation of how we can find more permanent, long-term, sustainable ways together to run these gatherings in the future.

This Rose wave is unstoppable at this point and yet there has to be a greater more balanced way of creating it. She is guiding us.
