Sacha Spirit

I created Sacha Spirit in 2016 to support Amazonian women at the Headwaters of the Amazon in Ecuador to have their own voice in the face of grave threats to their territories and way of life.  The women come from the Kichwa, Sapara, Shuar, Achuar and Waorani tribes of central/southern Ecuador. 

When I stayed in Moretecocha and other territories during 2015, the women spoke to me about their basic needs and the importance of preserving their language and handicrafts to pass on to future generations and also to share the spirit of the rainforest with the outside world.   

These precious handicrafts are made by hand to the sound of flowing rivers at night and carry the spirit of the Amazon rainforest and the open hearted, connected women who make them. 

Purchasing from Sacha Spirit not only supports women with an income for basic necessities, it preserves their traditions and helps the women to protect their territories from the incursion of its extractive industries which threaten their land and water which sustains them and all of life.
